"We are pleased to be working closely with the City of San Jose and an innovative company like Bloom Energy to install an environmentally-friendly resource that will provide electricity to our facility. Utilizing the Bloom Energy Servers will not only allow Sharks Ice to continue to provide a state-of-the-art public ice facility for our patrons but will allow for reducing its carbon footprint which will benefit the entire community."

Sharks Sports and Entertainment Installs Bloom Energy Servers to Provide Cleaner, More Affordable Power at its Sports Facilities
Sharks Sports & Entertainment (SSE), manager of the San Jose City-owned SAP Center, sought a distributed energy solution to provide power to a site that hosts nearly 150 sports and entertainment events annually. Installation of Bloom Energy Servers provides a cleaner, more reliable and more affordable energy source to power the venue which serves as home to the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. With the implementation of Bloom Energy Servers, SAP Center at San Jose becomes the first multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility to utilize fuel cell technology as a supplemental electricity source. Sharks Sports & Entertainment also utilizes Bloom Energy Servers at Sharks Ice at San Jose, a public recreational ice facility owned by the City of San Jose and managed by SSE.
By installing the Bloom Energy Servers, SAP Center at San Jose is using cheaper and cleaner electricity to power the venue. The Bloom boxes (two 200kW servers), supply approximately 90% of the electrical utility power at SAP Center used during non-event hours and approximately 25% used on a Sharks game day. Due to the efficiency of the Bloom box, SAP Center at San Jose will reduce its carbon footprint by 4.8 million pounds of CO2 over a ten-year period.
Sharks Ice at San Jose benefits from using a cheaper and cleaner electricity to power a facility which previously had an electrical energy bill of more than $65,000 per month largely due to the 24-hour a day, seven days per week refrigeration requirement. The Bloom boxes (500kWs) will replace about 85% of the electrical utility power at Sharks Ice and help shrink its carbon footprint by 30%.
By electing to install the Bloom Energy Servers at SAP Center and Sharks Ice at San Jose, Sharks Sports & Entertainment continues to demonstrate its support of the City of San Jose and its goals found in its Green Vision, Economic Development Strategy, and Climate Action Plan which include conserving energy, using renewable energy sources and developing sustainably.
