General Colin L. Powell, USA (Retired) served as the 65th U.S. Secretary of State from January 2001 to January 2005. He served 35 years in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Four-Star General and from 1989 to 1993, served as the 12th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He serves on the Museum Council of the Smithsonian Institute's African American Museum of History and Culture.
