Bloom Energy Celebrates California’s First Clean Air Day

Today, our employees took part in California’s first official Clean Air Day. The event, created by the Coalition for Clean Air, unites businesses and individuals in the state of California to take action to improve our community health.

While Bloom treats every day like Clean Air Day (our Energy Servers have eliminated 800 million pounds of CO2 and nearly 2 million pounds of NOx emissions from California’s air) but, today our team went even further than usual!

Clean Air DayVehicles are the greatest source of smog-forming emissions in California, so employees left their cars at home and took to bikes. Esmeralda Berkenkotter, Manufacturing Support Manager, is just one of many employees that practice Clean Air Day all year long. Here is what she said about Clean Air Day:

“Clean air is important to me because I love outdoor activities such as cycling, running, hiking, and volleyball. Without days like Clean Air Day, the awareness of preserving air quality would be lower, and I could miss out on many of my favorite things. Raising community involvement and awareness about reducing environmental impact, leads to a bigger change overall, and can lead to overall healthier lifestyles for everyone. Most of all, Clear Air Day provides a better Earth for future generations.”

For those unable to bike, teams took the initiative to organize carpools and utilize public transport.

Clean Air Day

Leaving the car at home just two days a week can help prevent over 1,600 pounds of pollutants from being released into the air each year.

Clean Air Day is more than just a day to recognize air pollution is a problem; it is a day to reflect and instill new ways we can each help to decrease our daily emissions. Everybody has a part in helping clear the air and Clean Air Day a strong first step.
